#FenwickBeautyWeek at Fenwick, Newcastle

Over the last couple of weeks I've spent several hours and quite a few pennies in one of my favourite stores, Fenwick in Newcastle (see here. Oh, and here), so when an email from the store popped into my inbox last week, I thought it was either to tell me they're sick of the sight of me and never to darken their door again, or, to invite me to some fabulous in-store event. Luckily, it was the latter.

So that's how I found myself tottering (as I so often do, in leopard-print heels) down to Fenwick with fellow blogger Chloe for Fenwick Beauty Week Blogger Preview Event last Tuesday. We were welcomed into the store's Tivoli Restaurant with cocktails and macarons (honestly, anyone'd think we're macaron-obsessed. I mean, we are, but, still.) and Fenwick Newcastle's beauty buyer Lucy (side note: most fabulous skirt EVER) explained that Beauty Week, running from Monday 11th to Saturday 16th May, showcases brands from the store's beauty hall, which is quite possibly one of my favourite places on earth due to the amazing brands stocked there: my beloved Dior, Bare Minerals, Molton Brown, Chanel, Aveda, Giorgio Armani and Tom Ford, to name a few (those last three are exclusive to Fenwick Newcastle within the North East). During beauty week, shoppers have the opportunity to enjoy make up lessons, beauty treatments, get tips and advice from professionals in the beauty industry and take advantage of lots of lovely beauty offers.

Us bloggers were given the chance to try out some of the treatments in the beauty hall as a sneak preview to beauty week, and I found it really difficult to choose which to go for since there are so many beauty brands I love. Indecisive as ever, I went for for a mix of old favourites and brands I'd not tried before.

First off I went to see the ladies at Molton Brown for a hand and arm massage. Oddly, although I generally don't like people touching me (it's a personal space thing), I do enjoy a good hand massage. I chose one of the new body lotion scents, Honeysuckle and White Tea as I'd never tried that one before, despite being a Molton Brown convert for a while now. I love that MB products are made in England and never tested on animals, as well as the fact that every product has an amazing, long lasting scent that is distinctly MB. The ladies on the counter explained that during beauty week, spend £45 and you'll receive a cute toiletry bag containing mini products perfect for travelling.

Next I wandered over to Dermalogica, which is a brand I've not really had much experience with. Katie the consultant explained that she would 'map' my skin to identify any concerns and recommend some skincare products that would suit me. I filled in a form stating my main concerns - oiliness and pores. (Yes I know, how pleasant!). Katie put on some sort of x-ray specs type device (well, obviously it was something a lot more technical than that, but I can't remember the actual name), and examined different 'zones' on my skin. She advised I need to drink more water (guilty!) but other than that, my skin is in good condition. Result!

Katie explained that Dermalogica are not a 'fluffy' company, and are focussed on results and finding each client an individual skincare regime that works. For me, usually distracted by pink bottles and pretty packaging, this is a completely new way of thinking, but one I like - I've lost count of the number of products I've bought just because I've been sucked in by how it looks, only to leave it languishing in the back of my wardrobe when it doesn't do what it says it should.

After being recommended a few products including the Daily Microfoliant, which I heard great things about, I was given a sample pack to take away and try for a few days. I'll write a full post once I've had a chance to try these and hopefully will have non oily, small-pored skin!

The last treat I managed to squeeze in was a Voluminous Blowdry from the lovely ladies at Aveda. I used to be obsessed with Aveda products when I worked on beauty counters a *few* years ago, but it's a brand I haven't used in a while. Since I'm of the opinion that bigger is always better (I'm talking hair here, HAIR. Cough.) I am always up for a bit of bouffant-ing.

We had a good chuckle whilst Jess, the Aveda stylist, used Volumising Tonic, back combing and Pure Abundance Hair Potion (a cool hair powder that transforms into lotion to thicken and bodify locks) to make my hair huuuuhhhge! At one point, I said I wanted it to look like '80s legend Taylor Dane's. I think I'd have got a bit of a shock if it actually did - luckily Jess managed to make my hair look thick, shiny and voluminous - kind of a nod to TD's but modern at the same time. Phew!

I've been volumised!
The Aveda girls were extremely knowledgeable about the brand, explaining that environmental responsibility is key, demonstrated by the ingredients in each product as well as the fact that all of Aveda's packaging is 100% post consumer recycled. I even learned that Aveda plant trees to offset C02 resulting from their aerosol hairsprays. I was especially interested in the new invati hair thickening range contains a blend of traditional Indian herbs and includes an exfoliating shampoo, thickening conditioner and scalp reviver which are all designed to help promote healthy, luxurious locks. Since my hair is fine, can be dull, doesn't seem to grow (hence why I've had pretty much the same 'do since I was a teenager) this sounds like a miracle to me! I can't wait to try the sample pack I got - I'll post back once I do!

One I'd been massaged, face-mapped and volumised, it was time for Fenwicks to close so sadly we had to leave. The evening had flown over and I did consider hiding amongst the ladies coats until everyone had left then recreating the wild-in-the-aisles department store scenes from my third favourite movie of all time Mannequin, but I'm not sure I'd have gotten away with it. Plus, I wanted to get home and play with my amazing goodie bag, which contained masses of treats from Benefit, Clarins, Molton Brown, Thierry Mugler, Bare Minerals, Clinique and Dior, to name just a few!

Thank you to Fenwick Newcastle for inviting me to this amazing evening! I will be popping back in next week during Fenwick Beauty Week (#FenwickBeautyWeek) to take advantage of some of the fab offers and events they have planned  - these include:
